I believe in god, but I'm not sure how much

I mean doesn't it just seem like human nature to blame all of our problems on some evil overlord that's makes evil happen??

Here's my reason why I don't believe in God, and I believe it's almost everyone's reason to. "That there is no proof of God ever being alive". Except in the Bible but anyone can make up a bullshit story like that. it just takes long. Even if there is a God, Where The FUCK Is He? Earthquake in Japan, War in Libya, currently, but where is God helping? exactly, We're the ones doing the shit. We're the ones helping out Japan and Libya right now, not God.
Sorry for the length but you can't sum everything up in a few lines.

Okay I understand your "reasoning" for why you don't believe in God; but there is something that should be noted before you start labeling all the things you did label. I go to Ouachita Baptist University and my faith is of great importance to me so sorry if this comes out bias, but as a believer of the One True God, you can understand my position.

A few weeks ago I went to an event called Passion. This year Passion was hosted in Atlanta and Fort Worth, I was blessed to be able to go to the Fort Worth event. At these events they have many well know speakers and artist in the Christian Community. One of the speakers is Louie Giglio and he made a comment about Japan (which had happened a week or two before) that really brought some clarity to what has happened there.

He began by stating the "unreached people groups" in our world today. This is defined as "an unreached or least-reached people is a people group among which there is no indigenous community of believing Christians with adequate numbers and resources to evangelize this people group." He continued by saying that Japan is ranked in the top ten for having the most unreached people. Louie brought this up because he was stating that God has control over all things of the world. Those who choose to deny him will "face the wrath of God."
"For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man - and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things." Romans 1:18 - 23.

The Bible also answers the question of "why do bad things happen in our world."
"Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshipped and served the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen." Romans 1:24 - 25
"And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness; they are whispers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; who, knowing the righteous judgement of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them." Romans 1:26 - 32.

God is there and he allows all things to happen in our world because of the desires of our hearts. Yes we are helping out Japan because that is part of our calling. I understand how you see things from position, but after reading some of the verses in Romans that I posted, bad things that happen in our world (or to you) all come from the evil desires of our heart. God allows those bad things to happen for a couple of reasons:
        1. To show how powerful of a God he truly is and how small and powerless we are compared to him
        2. God allows bad things to happen because our hearts desire the "bad things."
        3. By allowing us over to our evil desires we will stumble and fall because of these things.
        4. Once we do stumble and fall, we must recognize that we can't live a life without God
        5. Then we are left with the choice of believing that God is the only one who can deliver us our evil desires, or we reject God and live a life filled with emptiness.

To conclude, God didn't create natural disasters / wars / etc. to kill people for fun. Since Adam and Eve brought Sin into the world, these things were created to bring us back to God. He allows bad things to happen to allows us to fixate our eyes and heart back to the only Savior and only God that can truly fulfill the emptiness within us.

didnt read the whole thread but:

i dont need someone (god, people who also belive in god) when im sad or when i need help, i just need myself and my family. i also think that religions abet people to do a lot of bad things today and also a long time ago so i dont really like the influence of the church.
You a star, you look in the mirror, you know who you are, right?

What I don't get is so many christians don't believe in the scientific side of life and the big bang yet there are many parts of the christianity religion that is open to big bang theory. For me, the christian religion just contradicts it's self time and time again, with not a single piece of proof to prove any existence of God himself or any of his actions I made my own decision he's never existed.

For me religion is just faith, we as humans when we're down, upset and have no one else to turn to for help we always presume a higher power is there to guide and help us. It's our way of trying to make things better, seeing if someone can answer our prayers and help people in need.

When people are upset or want a mircale to happen without religion people wouldn't do anything, but with religion it gives them some sort of hope that someone higher and magical will help and guide them, God for me has never lived or made anything but he is just something that people want to look up to for there answers in life, to guide and give hope and faith to people who worship him.

Whilst science keeps you all alive, has increased life expectancy year after year and has constantly made life easier for you (cars, aeroplanes, drugs) and has explained how every single living thing on this planet has come into life and how the entire universe and solar systems and galaxies work, for me, science is clearly my choice. It has real evidence and you can see it everyday everywhere and in everything.

                So this is how I see all religions personally;
Thanks and I too respect your views and points. To go along with what you are saying about science / big bang theory. I don't understand why people don't believe in the Big Bang (or are so opposed of this theory), but easily accept the fact that God created everything out of nothing. To me, these sound the exact same. God created everything out of nothing and the Big Bang Theory claims that nothing blew up and thus creating all life and creatures, etc.

You are correct that we have no physical proof that God / Jesus existed other than The Bible. That is just part of the Christian religion that you truly can't put into words to explain to another person, other than either you have faith and truly believe in God / Jesus as The Bible claims; or reject this belief. I agree that religion is used to bring people hope; but that is the problem with religion...we choose to only believe / acknowledge one side of God and that is the all loving and forgiving God. Not the wrath of God part. Obviously your beliefs / views of religion are your own and I'm not here to change your mind / convert you, etc.

When I was first getting a taste of Christianity I didn't understand why people find / accept God when they were at their lowest points in life. Having gone through some low points I now understand why a lot of people find / accept God during this time. Yes God is a sign of hope because The Bible speaks of a time when this life will end and true believers will be in a place of peace and happiness. See when you give up your life to live for His name and not your own; you are putting complete belief and trust in God that no matter how hard times get, you know that God will never put you in a position that is to difficult for you to handle. With that being said, it should be noted that Jesus even said that those how choose to take up their cross and follow him, will also be persecuted as Jesus was persecuted. At Passion, Francis Chan spoke of a story about what he witnessed in China:
Francis visited the Underground Church of China and their he met 10 - 15 people who daily walk / bike / etc. miles to meet at the secret location. These are people between the age of 8 - 18. Chan told us some of their stories. He said that one of the kids was kicked out of his house when he was 9 years old in the pouring down rain because he father discovered he was a Christian. Another said that he and three of boys had to run away while being shot at by the Chinese Government due for their Christian beliefs. There are more stories but I think you get the point. The main point in all of these stories was that in most places in the world, we do not understand the full concept of persecution. The kids who were getting shot at ran away laughing and smiling because they knew it was a sign from God that they were being persecuted; in other words, acknowledgement from God that they are true believers. (I hope this makes sense because it's kinda hard to explain)

So yes religion can bring hope; but more of a hope in the life after. In this life people should understand that if they truly believe, they will be persecuted; some may even die professing belief in God.

There is a song by Lecrae called "Chase That (Ambition)" and he states "I'm living for a Kingdom that I ain't ever seen." That's part of having Faith in God / Jesus even though we can't physically see Him or his Kingdom.

I personally believe facts that science has proved, but science still can't answer the question of who / what created the Big Bang. To me, there has to be some high power (which is God for me) that created the Big Bang.

Yes science has helped us make life easier / live longer, but (obviously coming from my belief) God placed those people with the knowledge of how to make life easier / live longer here on Earth for that very purpose. Eventually someone will be given the gift of knowledge needed to cure all forms of Cancer. Science can't make someone to be born smarter than someone else. Intelligence is a gift that is not artificial.

So in a way, science can be a way of proof that God exist.

Obviously these are my beliefs and views; I don't speak for all Christians because I'm sure some may not agree with what I have written here on LWHQ. Also, I am still "fairly" new to this understanding of Christian and God so I could be wrong with some of my points / arguments. I have been a Christian for a while, but until lately, I never truly understood / been exposed to The Bible and God as extensively as I have now.

trust me, god isn't a being, god is something that we as humans can't even begin to comprehend.

some people are just too stubborn & close minded. drop some acid, check some shit out.

you don't have to be a christian or of any religion to believe in a higher calling.
