He hasn't had the cultural impact in the same way as the other "greats" but I don't think that should be viewed as an attack on Lil Wayne. 2Pac had an opportunity to bring an under-appreciated genre to the masses and show the world that it had more depth to it than other artists had realized. With rap and hip-hop being arguably the most successful genre out there at this point (it's affects are easily seen in pop and rock as well), it's really hard to expect Lil Wayne to have the same impact.

But I don't care that awful much about impacts on music when it comes to listening to it. I respect it, and it's great to get music out there and I appreciate that. But when it comes down to what I play on my iPod, I'm not deciding what song was most beneficial to a genre of music. If that were the case, my entire listening habits would be dictated by what was popular at the moment and 9/10 the popular music is kind of garbage. No, instead I'm picking a song I want to listen to because it's beneficial to me. 2Pac may have done wonders for making rap commercially successful, but I'll take Lil Wayne over 2pac any day of the week. When it comes down to what I like and what captures my imagination it's Lil Wayne hands down.
    this was a great post.
