Can lil wayne really even freestyle?

I have a serious question for all little Wayne's fans. He's talked about as one of the best freestyle rappers ever. But heres the thing, when he freestyles and records, he makes a lot of very short rhymes and then stings them together.

here is a video of him trying to do a long freestyle actually "off the dome", where its not written. he freezes, and does it very slowly because he's not sure how to rhyme so quickly. the video after him is an underground rapper named Eyedea, actually doing a long freestyle where its not written. how would you guys compare these two off the dome freestyles?

(at 2:20 Wayne quits freestyling and raps a written rap, so dont count after that)

Wayne doesn't freestyle but he also doesn't write down his lyrics. Or at least he didn't before he went to jail.

moderately. I figured I'd be attacked by die hards before someone admitted that, so thanks.

Then, in my personal view, I think he's making lyrics the laziest way possible. Why not make little rhymes and write them down, and put them together to make a string of the same topic in songs, instead of usually jumping around everywhere?

Please, don't take this the wrong way. I'm just very curious what the fans actually think about it.

I'll let you know what I think about him writing lyrics down once I hear some of his written material. I think its pretty silly to call him lazy though. Its well known that he's one of, if not the hardest working rapper in the game right now.

Freestyle plays a major role in Hip-Hop. Not being able to freestyle when you're a rapper is like a guitar player who can't do a guitar solo.

i think in the carter documentry he says he doesnt freestlye because he is so paid
and that his style isnt freestyling because he spits from the head and then goes back in if he doesnt like it

I agree, assuming you mean an improvised solo. So what does that mean for W?

He doesn't freestyle because hes so paid? You're basically stating that he does what he does for money alone, not because he loves it. After watching the video in the OP, I'd have to say he doesn't freestyle because he isnt capable..

Does it bother any of you the content of his music? I doubt many drug dealing, illegal gun owning, women degrading people have enough time to come onto these forums and post... so how does it relate to you? Do you like pretending that you are like him?

Also, although I may need to post another thread for this... do you think what he is doing for hip-hop is good? Because of people like Wayne, everybody assumes that all hip-hop is about guns bitches and weed... which is quite the opposite. When hip hop started, it was about dealing with life, loves, stress, things of that sort..

although he has gained a lot of fans for HIM, A LOOOOT of people dismiss hip-hop because of rappers like Weez. I think thats very unfortunate because there is a lot of pure, 'nice', helpful, insightful, meaningful hip hop out there.

Hip-Hop is pointless now a days, but I still love it. Wayne music is negative but not all, I only have descent songs by him like Something You Forgot, Hey America, Lets Talk, stuff like that.
