Mainstream is a song that has a pop influence to it, like how to love, mirror.....ect.

Btw if a song isn't "mainstream" that doesn't make it an "underground" song...just putting that out. Lol
That would be a pop song

What do you consider A Milli to be?
"Armed and dangerous, rich and famous, young and restless
    Guns and stretchers
    Cristal and dubs for breakfast
I just got one suggestion - none should test him
'Cause cuz get hectic; send one through your sons intestines
Glocks knock lungs from chests, you get the portrait?
Bodies piled up on porches, it won't be gorgeous"

Not really, mirrors isn't a pop song but it's mainstream coz Bruno mars got the hook.

I guess a milli is mainstream. I really don't understand the mainstream shit, but I'm sure mainstream doesn't mean "a song that is listened to the radio" or "a song that got mad hits"

I'm not really sure what you're saying there, but I think we're complicating this too much. But in my opinion Wayne has been a mainstream artist for most of his career. I believe without the exposure he recieved, he would not be where he is today. With that said, THANK GOD WAYNE WENT MAINSTREAM. We may have never heard of him, who knows.

Yeah, I respect ur opinion. But if Wayne been mainstream is entire career, then ppl would remember his old work like C1 lights out block is hot d2 dd3....ect. Ppl wouldnt just think of Wayne as the lollipop rapper. And if u think about it waynes most fans (I mean 75% of em) became his fans after C3, Wayne only got 4 Grammies, and that's only after C3.

So I guess Wayne went mainstream only on that C3 era. But that's what I think

Its a tough arguement because theres no doubt he gained most of his fans after C3. That album was a huge hit for him. Its kinda sad that those people don't even know him for the work that you mentioned.

I think the mainstream fans he gained put a lot of pressure on his career. It's hard for him to please all of his diverse audience with his music. I guess that's why he's doing IANAHB and Rebirth. I wish he would just stick to his roots to success. I wanna hear some dd3 type ishhh!

That's really like saying Wiz isn't mainstream because he only has 1 (?) Grammy

And those projects you named are well known. Like VERY well known. They haven't been forgotten. I mean:
TBIH did go plat in a month
D2 & DD3 are known as two of the best mixtapes ever made (even by Wayne haters)
Tha Carter is known as Wayne's best/second best (not on this website)

We aren't seeing/won't see this eye to eye, so we should just dead it now

Lol, I'm implying that Wayne's music isn't all mainstream. The majority isn't, so to say that he's always been mainstream is dumb.

Let me just say this, Wayne's name hasn't been in the media for as long as his career has been going. He wasn't an artist that everyone knows until CIII came around. Mainstream = Media.

He may have had plenty of hits before it, but he didn't gain his recognition in the everyday listener until CIII.

he'd probably be a lot more inspired.
since he wouldnt be dealing with these garbage ass.
mainstream producers that hes been fucking with.

i think we couldve seen something very similar.
to what currensy is doing right now. consistent dope music. year round.

He'd be more respected, and barely hated.

Waynes been mainstream since C 1 and argueably before.

                      Bling bling.

Underground = no media coverage whatsoever. Waynes been doig award shows, huge tours, tv spots and interviews since his teens.

A true underground artist doesnt see the light of day. 99% of yall dont know the difference.

Re: What would you think Weezy will be like now if he never went mainstream?

defining "mainstream" is apparently a lot harder than we thought.

Wikipedia says: "Mainstream music denotes music that is familiar and unthreatening to the masses."

I'm not sure what "unthreatening" is supposed to mean, but I get the rest.

The reason why people don't think of C1 is cause that was a while ago. Like people think of Buy U a Drank when they hear T-Pain, despite I'm N Luv Wit a Stripper being really popular...
