One reason people hate on Wayne is that he is too 'punchline' heavy. I have always felt that his punchlines and metaphors ARE Waynes signature sound/style that make him different than other rappers. No one comes close to creating images with words as good as him.

I also agree with others that I would enjoy his new music more if he used his actual voice instead of the autotune screaming that has been used more and more over the last few years. I feel like if S4TW2 and FWA had C2 style vocals he would have way better reviews.

totally agree, his ability to create images is far and away number one, proably all time. matter fact, if i had to point to the one technical skill that makes his argument for the goat, its probably that.

but still, its not enough.

not when drake has developed so specific a sound with 40 over the l ast 6 years, not when kendrick is doing full length cohesive albums, not when future and thug have evolved such interesting vocal styles over fresher production.

those guys are leaving a significant footprint on the game rightnow, theyre only doing what waynes done in way or another, but theyre doing it now, which ultimately, is whats most valuable to the critics and media.


when i listen to fwa, as much as i enjoy it personally, and think its a wonderful addition to his work.. when i ask.. well, what is it contributing to the scene as a whole? what's new here? what insight into the genre am i gaining, that i didnt have before? what beat here is like nothing ive heard before.. where's the challenge?

Drake sounds extremely annoying nowadays. No lyrics, just relying on cliche flows and mannerisms.
Kendrick sounds THE SAME on every single track. That nasal Yoda from star wars flow with pseudo quasi "poetic" rhymes equating to raps about "the struggle" and black people.... zzZZZ (I'm black btw). I DON'T want a cohesive ambient album from Kendrick. Shit had me slipping into a music induced coma yesterday when I heard it.

Excuse me modern day rap fans who are more interested in "sounds" and "trends", but I enjoy wayne's style. I ENJOY metaphors and punchlines I like to think back at a line that just zipped passed me. I hate this "vibe" music shit thats going on now. All of these cats sound the same which is ironic you ask what wayne is contributing lol

When I put on a Wayne track I'm excited to hear what Wayne has to say. No other rapper does that for me.. pause. Everybody is yelling, vibing, stutter flow with a repetitive chorus, using cliches and more of characters than musicians. I couldnt stand some of wayne's recent releases before S4Tw2 for that reason.. he was sounding like these vibe music ass niggas and lost his touch. Wayne's best friend is a beat, his brain, and no chorus. That shit is magic.

Wayne's the last of a dying bread along with Jay, Nas, Em etc.
