ppl can criticize all day, thats your opinion. But i think ppl don't understand the mind frame and what he trying to do with the tape which is reinvent his sound with experimentation so it makes the criticizing invalid tbh. I feel you on wayne needs a cohesive project but dont take it as he cant spit when he wants too ppl
i really dont think hes experimenting here. hes just rehashing sounds that future and thug have developed further than wayne has, but he doesnt have their taste or sensibilities in beats, melodies, or song structure.

i thought wayne sounded freshest, and the most himself on my name is.. because it was finally a beat that no one else can rap on in 2015, and make sound new. he didnt rip eminems style, futures, thug.. he just approached that beat.. how he felt best, and he sounded natural and relaxed..

if anything, i think wayne should experiment more in that zone..

    • How when he invented the style? I honestly think Wayne chose to rap the way he did on the tape for a reason and purpose which tells me he attempting to take back his style. Let's explore SWTF2 and FWA, both projects are just wayne spitting bars and metaphors and actually rapping, still get criticize. On NC2 Majority of the songs are drugged out Wayne which ppl love to hear but sense his style, sound is being overused by damn near the whole new class of rappers, he can't win. Also future and young thug cant spit better than wayne LYRICALLY, niggas can barely understand them.

so the idea that you can "take back a style" is a poor concept. theres no copyrights, no intellectual properties.. theres no cease and desist. you know what im saying? that line of thinking isnt going to go anywhere constructive.

i loved SFTW2, and i thought FWA was pretty good, but that one started to show the holes in waynes game. namely, hes outdated. future and thug are doing their styles and techniques w the principles that wayne set forth, this is an awesome thing. as a wayne fan, this is why we should appreciate future and thug, not because theyre taking his shine, but they took whats good from wayne music, and started doing their own thing.

and that thing, their version of the sound, at the moment, is further along than what wayne is working on. thats why i think wayne needs to make music that sounds nothing like future and thug at all, thats why "my name is" stands out to me, future and thug have no chance on that beat. wayne had the space to be original on that beat, instead of trying to keep up w the trends that future and thug are setting,

and as far as lyrically, the 3 of them are completely different writers. wayne is definitely the wordiest, classically, the best lyricist. but future can write his ass off, he arranges his english in really natural ways, his patterns are dope, and the pockets he fits his flows are in, are super tight.

same thing w thug, hes probably the toughest to read. but he has a ton of great writing on ss2. hes starting to open up more, bars are becoming more coherent, and the lines are legit.

most importantly tho, w both guys. its not a criticism that "ngas can barely understand them" what matters is that they are, 100% of the time saying things, so its on the listener to put the effort in to listening and understanding, then from there, we can talk about criticism.

but not being able to understand them.. is like the most superficial level of listening. it takes some work, thats why i read future, i read thug, the way i read wayne. it changes my listening, and adds understanding, makes my listens to them more fair.

            • THIS IS NOT MY RESPONSE BUT WHOEVER THIS GUY IS HE SUMS IT UP PERFECTLY

People are saying this is trash. lol Wayne is so far ahead of the times that its hella scary because no one even notices. this guy is so misunderstood as an artist. people also don't realize that wayne is back at stage 1. where he is mentally/musically right now, is the same as where he was in his early mixtape/album days (SQ mixtapes, then the early drought days, 500 degrees & light out & even carter 1) no one really saw much potential in him. but then he came with the carter 2 & 3 and the drought 3 tapes & then nc1 & then boom he blew up. the same shit is about to happen with him again trust me. he's about to take over again and a lot of people don't even see it coming. & all these people who call him trash right now gon be like "....oh shit ". lol just wait. this dude is light years ahead of everybody

                  • I'm all for experimentation and reinventing the sound that's what is so great about Wayne his ability to adapt and stay relevant 20 years in the game. I think criticism is key to that being a success. Too many yes men around Wayne.

                        impossible to do that unfortunately.
