    Re: J. Cole

Only thing I dislike about Cole & some other similar rappers/artists is that they can very vague and plain-styled.I know it's been said numerous times before but the music is just like boring, like I force myself to listen to it to see what the hype is about but it doesn't attract to me.Sure, they are spitting hot lyrics all over the place but the beat, flow, and style is just too "lifeless",if that's how I should put it.I wish I could find more lyrical songs that's creative and dope in all ways possible.Like I really like this song by Joe Budden but Slaughterhouse are VERY lyrical but they can be "lifeless" at times.Anybody feel me? No offense thrown at anybody either.

Your putting it like hes overall artistically better then all the new rappers. lyricism and beat production are a factor but doesn't cover up the entire MC category. Wiz, Cudi, Drake which are all seen as "the next generation of hip hop" shits on Cole artistically.

personally i think Cole is a great producer if thats what you mean, did a good job with Blow Up and Relaxation. I really don't like Drake as a rapper, his flow is completely monotoned which some people might like but i don't. Wiz & Cudi make nice tunes to listen to but there lyrics are rhyme scheme are kind of boring where as Cole switches it up. Obviously Cole destroys them lyrically but i don't know exactly what you mean artistically, people called The Warm Up mixtape by him a very artistic mixtape and I'll admit he hasn't made the same type of music since but i still think he's a step above the rest of the new rappers.

Actually the only wayne music i have been listening to this past couple months is INHAB & No Ceilings which is weekly. I mostly listen to Wiz, Kanye, Jay & Drake but i appalled your effort. The last E-Beef if you will i was involved in was with YF which was last year? What was the reason you where banned a couple weeks ago? talking shit as usual. As i stated before i'm done with this conversation just had to clear that up.

Digging that Warm Up track, other 2 has that same "boring" and "plain" feel to them.Dreams ain't that bad though,I must say, maybe I should give it a few more listens.

If he made more songs like Warm Up,I could feel him more.If he did, someone show me some more.

Um, explain what in the world do you mean when you say "artistically". Lyricism far and away the most important attribute of a rapper. The legends -- Pac, Biggie, Jay-Z, Nas, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, etc. -- are all lyricists. I don't know what this "artistic" category is, but if you are a great lyricist, unless your flow and delivery is terrible, you're a great MC. There's no way to spin that. I don't really want to make stupid comparisons to those legends with Cole, especially since he doesn't even have an album out, but Cole is definitely in the same mold as those guys as a lyricist, and as long as the mainstream doesn't get to him, he has an excellent chance at being a legend in the future if he can stay focused.

Kid Cudi, Drake, and Wiz Khalifa don't have that in their arsenal. Yeah, maybe they can sing their own hooks and make a catchy song that sells to the mainstream, but in reality, that doesn't mean you're a great rapper. Typically an artist's debut album is their best one due to their hunger and effort put into it in order to break through as a big name (there are exceptions, i.e. Lil Wayne's best album is Tha Carter II, not his debut). People TODAY still go back and listen to Nas's Illmatic debut, Kanye's College Dropout debut, Jay-Z's Reasonable Doubt debut, etc. even 10-15 years after they come out. Five years from now, no one will be looking back at Thank Me Later, Man on the Moon, or Wiz's debut and say "Wow, that was a classic album that will never get old". I mean, they were solid albums at the time of their releases, but they aren't something that will make a lasting impression on hip-hop. The legends have made those lasting impressions on hip-hop and it was because of their lyricism, not because of the beats or the featured artists or any catchy hooks or anything 'artistical'.

I'm not saying J. Cole is going to make that lasting impression either with his debut album or any future albums, but he's got a much better chance at this point than Drake, Cudi, or Wiz Khalifa. Some people have heard part of his album and called it a 'mixture of Illmatic and College Dropout'. Whether they are just saying that because of the hype remains to be seen. For all I know, he might sell out and make a mainstream album with a bunch of club songs and punchlines that are simple and have no meaning, and he'll flop as an artist. We'll know soon enough. But long story short, being great 'artistically' doesn't make you a better rapper. Pure lyricism is why people consider Pac, Biggie, and Nas the greatest of all time -- not because they were great artistically.
