      Re: Dexter Discussion Thread

Just updated the OP with a brief Dexter overview and descriptions of main characters. I can do season overviews too, but that might give too much away for people who haven't seen it yet

Good looks on the overview & character info. Masuka is one dirty/funny mofo. Lol. But yeah, tbh I have no clue what the season is going to be about. But I do have a feeling Quinn is going to be screwed. Just has that bad vibe to him. Always messing with the wrong people. Regardless I think it's going to be a good season.

Yeah I honestly have no idea what's gonna happen this season, especially considering how unpredictable this show is. All I know is Quinn needs to lay off Dexter, that usually doesn't end well for people lol

            Re: Dexter Discussion Thread

So season 5 kicked off last night *SPOILERS* the season started right where season 4 left off, immediately following Rita's death. Here's the tv.com review of the premiere "My Bad." Again, do not read this if you plan to watch the episode but haven't yet, it contains spoilers:
            “It was me.”
So said Dexter when the police arrived at his house to take Rita’s body away. We know Rita wasn’t one of his victims, of course—but we also know that Dexter had ample opportunity to dispatch the Trinity Killer. By stalling, by hoping to learn something from a serial killer who was more monster than man, Dexter doomed his wife to a brutal death. He took on too many responsibilities. He got careless. In the words of the episode title, “My Bad.”
Sunday night’s Season 5 premiere was characteristically strong—no surprise for this consistently great series. Dexter could have cheated by skipping forward a few months. (Time jumps—so hot right now.) We would have been spared much of the fallout: seeing Rita’s body photographed, seeing Dexter struggling with how to tell Astor and Cody, seeing him—in the episode’s final scene—delivering a fitting eulogy for the wife who kept him grounded. “I wasn’t even human when we first met,” he confided.
“My Bad” was often hard to watch, but it was essential: first, for the fans who came to cherish Rita over the course of Dexter’s first four seasons, and second, for Dexter, who must figure out what to do next. The reason the episode was so heartbreaking—or, hey, one of the reasons—was that in mourning Rita, we saw that Dexter couldn’t. The audience grieved for his wife more than he did. And while there’s something to be said for escaping that pain, Dexter had no way of dealing with the feelings he did experience. It was that inner turmoil that drove him to beat an innocent-ish man to death. He broke his code, to which Harry’s ghostly presence responded, “That’s the first human thing I’ve seen you do since she died, Dexter.”
There were plenty of moments for the other characters to shine as well. Jennifer Carpenter’s complex portrayal of Debra continues to surprise me—it’s that constant back-and-forth between toughness and vulnerability. She just learned that Dexter’s biological brother was her former fiancé, the Ice Truck Killer. And rather than deal with that, she was immediately flung into a leadership position. “I’m not used to having to be the strong one,” she admitted. I scoffed a bit when she had sex with Quinn, if only because that pairing has been inevitable for far too long. But it was also an important move forward—whether it signified her moving on from the death of Lundy and break-up with Anton, or if was just one of her coping mechanisms. My guess? A little of both.
I was also glad to see a continued focus on the relationship between newly married Maria and Angel. Their fast-track romance added some much-needed lightness to Season 4, but it wasn’t exactly the most complicated pairing the show has produced. I look forward to seeing how they grow as a couple, either together or apart. As Maria pointed out, she and Angel were married on the same day Rita was murdered—it’s possible Trinity was killing Rita as Dexter was witnessing their wedding vows. Dexter was born in blood. So was his son, Harrison. In a way, weren’t the Laguerta-Batista nuptials born in blood, too? Who knows what karmic consequences that could have.
But Dexter himself is the focal point, as he should be. “My Bad” took him on a journey toward rediscovering his humanity—or at least, what humanity he does have. We saw him at his worst: flashbacks to his awkward first date with Rita, the emotionless manner in which he tells Astor and Cody about their mother’s murder—while wearing Mickey Mouse ears, no less. And then we saw him at his most human: grieving for Rita by pummeling someone’s face, delivering a eulogy because that’s what normal husbands do. He’s not all the way there, and he never will be. But he has truly come to understand what separates him from a monster like Arthur Mitchell. Trinity’s family was a front. Dexter’s means more to him than that.
Deb tried to console Dexter: “You are decent and good.” “I’m not,” he responded. But the scene concluded with a warm hug between the siblings. Is this the sign of a new Dexter? It seems that he finally appreciates his connections and relations as more than just a cover for his dark passenger. Dexter may not feel emotion. But—a credit to Rita’s influence—he’s closer than he’s ever been before.

What did you think of the premiere? Some quick thoughts I had:
            1. Possible the most depressing/sad episode of Dexter yet.
            2. Dexter is gonna be in trouble this season, he is probably going to be a prime suspect in Rita's murder and he really has no way of proving he wasn't the killer.
            3. Quinn is a prick

              Bringing this back.....

First thoughts was: I need to watch season 4 to remember what happened.
The episode started off a bit slow in my opinion, but that was just to get viewers to recall all of the past events. SPOILER I was surprised when he killed that guy in the bathroom. Didn't expect it at all since most are thought out and planned.

As for the season, I feel that it will revolve around Dexter being the prime suspect. Him trying to become more of a 'human' and showing emotions.

Yeah it definitely was a slow start. Wanted you to feel the sadness of Rita's death, which they did IMO. Also wasn't expecting him to just destroy that guy in the backroom, but like his dad said it was almost kinda nice to see him doing something human and showing some emotion. Definitely gonna be an interesting season, it looks like they're gonna figure out that Dexter Morgan and Kyle Butler are the same person... No idea how he's gonna get himself out of this mess. Here's the preview for the next episode:

Just finished Episode 2 Season 5. Definitely got that 'Dexter' feel back to it. Good second episode.

Not all that surprised by the new 'killer'.

Yeah, Masuka had 2 awesome lines in a row too when he was taking pictures of the blood haha. Have you seen the ep 3 preview?

Thats Dexters 'father' (he was adopted). If you picked up from season 5 you're probably going to be lost (I suggest starting from 1), after awhile you'll figure out the characters and everything.

Harry Morgan, Dexter's adoptive father and a former homicide detective, was first to spot Dexter's passion for human vivisection and helped his son channel his homicidal impulses into a more constructive pursuit: vigilante justice

But yeah, if you're not starting from season 1 you definitely should
