Memento*. But Yes. It's overrated. The idea for the film just doesn't work for a full length movie. It gets boring, a little too confusing and just generally strange tbh. 5/10
Probably Shawshank Redemption, but I expect you've seen that.
After that, probably A Clockwork Orange and Taxi Driver. Both are really good movies; I'm not ure if they'd be your thing, though. A Clockwork Orange is a 1970s British film about a violent rapist being experimented on to 'cure' his problem. Taxi Driver is another 1970s film with Robert De Niro, and it's about a taxi driver who has a breakdown and does some crazy shit.

Boyz N the Hood is a better acted and all-round smarter film; in the messages it tells etc. but Menace II Society has a lot more of a 'ghetto' feel - whatever that may be.
@Cli-City - you haven't seen Shawshank Redemption? I highly suggest you check it out. Most people on here love it. Oh, and Fight Club. That'll be more your thing.
