Remember when Future first came out?
Who was fucking with him when they heard Tony Montana the first time?
Who could understand everything he said the first time you heard him?

Did that song make you go like "Damn he's dope!" the first time you heard it?

Cause I do not remember anybody fucking with him like that when he first came out.
I remember everybody hating on him.
Seemed like he didn't have any fans what so ever, but we kept hearing about him
Then eventually people started liking his music heavy. Now he has plenty of loyal fans.

And how many times have we seen this happen since Future?

Chief Keef, Lil Uzi Vert, Lil Yachty, Kodak Black, Lil Pump etc etc.
These guys always got shit ton of hate when they first came out, but they were still hot in the game.

As I observed this, I asked myself a question. Who are their fans? Where are they hiding? Why do I keep hearing about them when nobody is fucking with them?

It appears to me as if the media, radio, magazines, hip hop blogs etc forced us to like them. As if they told us so many times that this is good music until we agreed. Sort of like brainwashing us to like them.

When we look at the rap game today, "mumble rappers" are obviously the most dominant.
And they only talk about diamonds, drugs, money, hoes & bitches etc. Some ignorant shit.
While lyricism in the rap game today is very irrelevant compared to the older days of the rap game.

Not to be on some KidComet shit, but is the music industry purposely dumbing down hip hop listeners?
As if they don't want us to think? As if they want us to do ignorant shit such as doing drugs and party all the time.
Cause you and I know; that music can have major influence on people. I can imagine that the music industry is very aware of their power.

What do you guys think. Am I reaching?

I hate them thirsty bitches
Cut them off like circumcision

In all honesty, I think it is obvious that things are this way.
There are probably a lot of people who will disagree on here, and tbh I did not
expect you to post something like this but I'm pretty sure this is just the reality of things

Just like stuff that comes in Free TV constantly gets dumber and dumber

It's a sign of everyone from the Tunechi, Kanye, Em, Jay, Nas, 50 Cent, Game, Jeezy, etc era getting old I think and just has to accept these new rappers are what's hot to teens even if we will never like them or their new music

I have to say I've not met anyone in their late 20s or 30s who likes the new rapper's music.....

yeah but I feel like the streets chose those artists. The artists wouldnt make it if it wasnt for the streets.
But these new rappers get forced upon everybody.

Hip-Hop has transitioned from lyricism to punchlines to simply just sounding "good"... I don't know anybody who really likes the rappers that are relevant now, they just essentially enjoy hearing the music... I asked many people I know if they actually pay attention to what they're saying and not a single soul admitted to listening to the words on the track..Me being somewhat of an old head that grew up with Wu, Nas, Bad Boy, DMX, Shyne, etc... lyrics are very important to me...So I'm indifferent and don't care to listen to anyone who's popular right now....

You're not reaching as they are ultimately trying to dumb down the community and anyone who happens to associate with it since it's all ignorant garbage..However I think the even truer reality of it all is that the current state of hip-hop is reaching out to a larger demographic since a very small percentage of people paid attention to lyrics to begin with... Large labels will sign what the people like because their ultimate goal is to make money...Lucian Grange takes 50% of everything from anyone associated to Universal..which pretty much every major artist is under...People who talk about their "own label" 90% of them are just sub labels under Universal...

Rappers nowadays slur and horribly annunciate their words so that it flows perfectly with the beat....There's nothing you can do about it, so just listen to what you prefer...

I don't call it hip hop

It's more like hip pop or emo rap

Well, the reason these rappers are famous isn't because of their talent as much as its about the management.

It's not about how dope you rap, but how good you can promote your brand to become this famous. All these radios and media attention, you think they just come for free? Nope, they pay for this to gain further popularity. It's as simple as this.

As a matter of fact, these rappers 'mumble' just because it is what's hot right now. And they do have fans actually, just go to twitter. Lil Uzi got over 1 million followers.

No need to exaggerate. There are still serious rappers like Kendrick, Drake, Childish Gambino, Chance the Rapper, J Cole, Joey Badass..and the list goes on.

These 'mumble rappers' aren't even that important, in the end its rappers like Kendrick and Drake that dominate the hip hop scene today.

This 100%, and who has the money to push those rappers so they get posted on big blogs, played on the radio, open up for pop stars (example: Lil Uzi Vert opening for The Weeknd on his world tour) etc... It's the labels, the music executives. They push what they know is gonna pop and the message they want to promote to influence young minds.

If you disagree with the way they want to market you, they'll just leave you on the label as an worker that makes demos for other artists, that's what happened to Frank Ocean. Until he said fuck it and dropped a free mixtape which gained enough buzz to make the label change their mind about him.

Not saying thats what happens in most cases, but it definitely happens alot.

I remember Wayne made me want to smoke weed and sip syrup when I was 15. That was bad, but atleast I didn't want to pop xannys, percocets, snort coke, drink lean and smoke weed at the same time while taking shots.

It's not an exaggeration... Look at the hiphop category prevalence year to year... A lot of you weren't listening to hip hop when mafioso rap was at its peak... Which was essentially relative to the popularity of mumble rappers today just on a smaller scale...

Good rappers and what's dominant can coexist... What's being discussed is popularity not absolutes...
