This is for the REAL Hiphop fans, the one that can admit that hiphop is mostyl garbage ... First of all let me tell you I've got 120gb of rap from the 80's to now so don't you dare tell me Im "hatin on hiphop". Alright, so truth is, rap music is shitty. It sounds good, sounds cool, but there is no originality at all and no messages (at the exception of a few rare songs). ALL hiphop songs that are mainstream or attempting to be mainstream are nothing more than ego tripping. Rap is the only music genre where we don't try to move away from the cliche that we've created, rappers actually try to be as much as possible like the stereotype that people have of us. Just look at ANY rap video, what do you see ? Chains, cars, "real men" posing like models, gorgeous women half naked running to the artist ... What do you hear ? "I made it out the hood", "Im real", and multiple metaphors to show how good he or she is. There is no message, no real theme, no nothing. Even artists that we consider talented (the so-called lyricists) are no people that talk about interesting things but simply people that talk about the same exact thing but in a more interesting way. Anyways, come discuss all that you think is wrong with hiphop here. Who knows maybe one day we will actually become a real type of music and have more diversity (and I dont just mean a white kid here and an asian one here) ...

Re: Problems With Hiphop
Thats not hip hop, its entertainment in general. Everything has a gimmick and everything at the end of the day is kind of 'unnecessary'. But its entertainment and if it entertains you, it did its job, if it doesnt, find something else I guess.

Re: Problems With Hiphop
I agree with this 100%. I haven't even been listening to music of that genre lately, simply for the fact that every thing I hear or see on BET or MTV Jams, Hits, Playlist, etc. is exactly the same. There is no meaning in today's hip-hop at all. Everything revolves around the same thing: as you said; money, cars, trashy women, and smoking weed. Hip-Hop escalated into another value. I still listen to music from 1980s to 1990s because they have meaning and it's way better than 2006 music. Although, I believe music is for entertainment, Hip-Hop kind of wasn't. It was supposed to be a form of poetry put into meaning so people can relate to those type of environments. Nobody wants to hear something like "all the way turnt up", it's ridiculous.
-- I can't speak for other people -on behalf. Just because I feel this way about Hip-Hop, or music today generally, doesn't mean anyone else has to. Like I said before, music is entertainment. Other people like that type music and some even follow it. People just need something new to listen to...

Re: Problems With Hiphop
I agree, but sometimes we just have to accept it, like i hate people that hate 2days musik and compare it to old musik. The only reason its more about fame and money and shit is because there is no more hood, and hustling. Theres no more struggle. Like when wayne was younger his musik was deeper true? and same with all old music, now they all have success & money and dont tell me that rappers dont start rappin for the money, if u think tey did it for other reasons u are an idiot, there taking it all for granted which i think they should be. They start rapping so they can provide for themselves and there family so they are no longer dealing drugs and hustling.
But yeh hip hop is dying, only ones keeping it alive is wayne, eminem, jay z no1 else

the sales are shit, and the music is shit, but also if a rapper that comes and makes 'real rap' it will sell not much, cause the rap music today is enterteining, but have no meaning, the rap before was boring, but had alot of meanings, and im a rap fan to the new rap, don't listen to old rap cause its so boring expect Weezy & Shady's old music

Re: Problems With Hiphop
I may get hate for this but Wayne is one of the people who fit this gimmick. Em, Jay-Z, T.I., Lupe Fiasco and a few others don't. I completely disagree with WeezyFan. Old rap wasn't boring at all and most of it was raw emotion you could relate to. Now it's about who has the fanciest wordplay. Wayne broke the gimmick with Rebirth and it's my favorite album by him because it has songs with meaning and emotion to them. Being on a major label doesn't help either, they have a big say in what you put out as your final album and they keep these gimmicks for artists cause the label gets more money. It is all about money now and no longer sharing a message of feelings and life to people.

Re: Problems With Hiphop
my 2 cents you say hip hop is about chains car money etc then you say wayne is keepin it alive Wayne since c3 is been mainstream i dont mean the odd fuck today or any others but generally mainstream.
all the other rappers have had mainstream songs but the one rapper if you say raps about the world in General is still Eminem.
Whether it may be relapse or MMLP his rap is still the most meaningful
Eminem-

Re: Problems With Hiphop
The problem is the rappers just want money, they dont care about art, they are not artists. They all make the same type of music because it works, you get more paid talking about gucci, bentleys, bitches and money than talking about your emotions. Rappers are ofently not educated, so you cant expect a lot from them. They prefer hanging out in the clubs than to read or to work...Weezy have the potential to make great music, i think rebirth is a good exemple, he just need more time. He'll probably think a lot in jail and im sure he will come back not more hood but with more knowlege about himself. Im 100% sure it is possible to make deep lyrics sounds good, I just think the world is too stupid and lazy to realise this.
