Rappers are ofently not educated, so you cant expect a lot from them. They prefer hanging out in the clubs than to read or to work...Weezy have the potential to make great music, i think rebirth is a good exemple, he just need more time. He'll probably think a lot in jail and im sure he will come back not more hood but with more knowlege about himself. Im 100% sure it is possible to make deep lyrics sounds good, I just think the world is too stupid and lazy to realise this.
It's not just rap artists who are un-educated, it's a lot of people in the world now. People can't understand deep meanings in songs but they can understand something like e.g. I'm higher than a plane. I do think you can expect a lot from rappers, people like Kanye, Wayne, Jay-Z, Lupe and Birdman all have a good business knowledge and are smart people.

There is no meaning in today's hip-hop at all. Everything revolves around the same thing: as you said; money, cars, trashy women, and smoking weed.
And while I agree with this 100%, you cant blame hip hop. I think art imitates life not the other way around. Girls/Boys, Women/Men have become very BASIC as a whole. Females are running around being trashy and materialistic and not having values, and guys are running around trying to be little wannabee Gs. So what are the people in entertainment supposed to do? If everyone got on some Jill Scott/Lyfe Jennings/Lupe Fiasco type shit, nobody would buy it b/c it wouldnt appeal to them, they couldnt identify with. Actually better yet, people love to follow the crowd and follow each other and instead of stepping outside that, they would be too scared to not fit in and not have friends. So once people learn to be about more, entertainment will follow suit.
In bold: Yes, because we're used to the music we hear today.
In bold: Which is exactly what I mean...

I'm not blaming Hip-Hop. Teenagers to young adults listen to Hip-Hop on average but it doesn't necessarily mean they are influencing their acts. Like I said before, Hip-Hop today, is ridiculous.

Old rap wasn't boring at all and most of it was raw emotion you could relate to. Now it's about who has the fanciest wordplay. Wayne broke the gimmick with Rebirth and it's my favorite album by him because it has songs with meaning and emotion to them. Being on a major label doesn't help either, they have a big say in what you put out as your final album and they keep these gimmicks for artists cause the label gets more money. It is all about money now and no longer sharing a message of feelings and life to people.
Props for admitting that Wayne does that too. I'm OBSESSED with Wayne and at least when he talks bs he does it in a cool way but there's no real "substance" to what he says. Btw jay and to do the same shit even though paper trail was a step up

Are you serious?? Rap has no meaning? damn dog i didnt even know that...SMH. Of course it does!!! Rap is the best music in the industry by far... Rock? nah its okay but its not that great(classic rock is about all i can really take into my ears)... RnB? ehh... Maybe if im fuckin..... Pop... nah ill pass i like the females in waynes, snoops, hovas and etc. vids more... but tbh you cant say Rap dont got a meaning if your not doin what there doin or what they was doin... I understand everything said in the rap i listen too and i might think it goes hard but if i play it for my brother he wants to change the song... WHy? Cuz i lived a completely different life than he did.. I was out on the streets since 98' and he was in school everyday possible. So when it comes to dudes rappin about street life i know exactly what they talkin about.. but my brother hears it and is thinkin what the fuck he talkin about ya dig? If i hear a song about hustlin for money i get the meaning but he doesnt.. and if i hear a song about how police are petty and they all just a bunch of pigs i'll understand where dudes comin from cuz i've been there but my brothers never even been handcuffed ya know what i mean? Its all about how you live your life and how you take the music you choose to listen too. IMO every good song i hear in rap has a meaning even if its about money, cars and clothes.... All they saying to ppl is get off the block and you could do what we doin... Thats how i take it at least... I mean why else would i enjoy listening to dude rap about how much money he got??? Obviously cuz i want that money myself and To get that myself i need to be reminded about the money cars and clothes i could have in this world.
