The problem with hip-hop is that these artists are commin out with commercial shit just because if they didn't they would have any fans. and plus if you come out with some gangster shit you'll probably get a negative response...

    Too true bro.

Just look at Tech N9ne, he couldn't get a big deal cause he spoke real shit, cause he didn't follow mainstream and he talked about shit that people don't normally do. He was seen as making "white music" which lost him a lot of fans but he's still the best selling independent rap artist of all time. Just says something to me really that big labels don't know how to market artists who talk about real shit or break away from the mainstream.

    YES!

The way I look at it is the labels are playing it safe. Like if they see a really good response to one record they automatically want to make their artist sound like that because they know they will be successful and bring in some serious money. But if you had some real deep lyrics about gang life etc. they will stay away from you like when 50 cent first started, he wouldn't get signed because he was basically a gangster.
    Exactly bro

If you're not this mainstream genre of rap you don't get anywhere with a big label and to make it on an Independent label is almost impossible now-a-days

A lot of independent artists are just amazing and if you see videos of them performing they're shows are normally 100x better than a mainstream artist as well lol[/quote:392hafkp]

Yeah, like Plies, have you ever noticed how his ONLY singles off any of his albums are always about women? That's how the label wants it, he even said it In my opinion a lot of these mainstream artists have sold out to stay with a record contract

And the fans play a big role too, they basically control everything because if they don't like the music you are putting out, you get a bad response until you sell out and change. Fans now-a-days are close minded but we all have to be open minded in order to actually listen to good music.

        Re: Problems With Hiphop

As far as im concerned, music is just an artist expressing themselves. No matter what they talk about its what they feel, Unless its those fake ass rappers or mainstream pop artists who dont even write thier own songs.

I divorce Hip-Hop. I only listen to old Hip-Hop songs, even with Wayne. He changed a lot to me. To much Hollywood talking going on.

                Re: Problems With Hiphop

its not even just Hip Hop. Most music is becomming more and more repetitive & shllow, shitty TBH. Only a Few good artists/bands still holding shit up, DIK whats going on.
But some people are just too sensitive about it. It can get really annoying when people are just complaining about how shit hip hop is and how all the artists are the same etc. coz really they are not.
